Time to bee on

Winnie the Pooh said it best; "You just never can tell with bees."
I've been keeping bees for 4 years now and decided to start blogging about it. In many ways this will be just another bee blog and it many ways it won't be. I'm a strong believer that there's no wrong way to keep bees. There's as many management styles as there are beekeepers. It's a unique hobby. Or in my case it's an addiction. It was a hobby that has morphed into a full on addiction. Actually, to be quite honest, I don't think it ever had a chance to be a hobby. Before I got my first package of bees, I was addicted. I read everything and anything related to bees. I took a queen rearing class before I knew what a queen looks like. Even though I started out with 2 hives, I bought around 600 sheets of foundation. I knew I was going to expand. I knew I had to somehow feed this bug that I caught. Thanks to my gramps, I was exposed to beekeeping as a teenager. But it was different. I would help him get honey from his hives during summer and then extract it. That was it. And I wasn't even a fan of honey back then. To this day honey is the least fascinating aspect of beekeeping to me. I know little about it, but i like it a lot. I also know how hard the bees ( and the beekeepers ) work to make honey. The past 4 years have taught me a lot. I killed a lot of bees learning those lessons. I've learned a lot about myself too. I think one of the most important things I learned is something I never expected to learn. Something that has been said many times before for many years.
